About the Location: Dinosaur Fossil Park and Museum in Rayoli, Balasinor
In the 1980s, paleontologists accidentally stumbled upon fossil remains and bones in the village of Rayoli in Balasinor, leading to a remarkable discovery: the area was once home to more than 13 species of dinosaurs that thrived around 65 million years ago. This incredible find has since attracted researchers and numerous excavations, unveiling a treasure trove of dinosaur history.
Rajasaurus Narmadensis: The King of Narmada
Among the most notable discoveries in this fossil-rich area is the Rajasaurus Narmadensis, a squat, thick-legged, heavy-bodied carnivorous dinosaur with a distinctive crested horn. Named “King of Narmada” (Raja meaning king and Narmandensis indicating its proximity to the Narmada River), this dinosaur belonged to the same carnivorous family as the Tyrannosaurus Rex. Its unique features and historical significance make it a centerpiece of the park.
