Overview
About The Location: One of India’s twelve jyotirlingas, or self-manifested shivalingas, is housed at this hallowed location. The town is not too far away from the red structure. The main sanctuary with the shivalinga is located at the end of a wide hall. Another significant spiritual location near the temple is Gopi Talav Tirth, a lake associated with stories of gopis visiting Lord Krishna and ultimately sacrificing their life to become one with the earth.
Brief History: According to legend, this is the location where a demon named Daaruka imprisoned a devotee of Shiva named Supriya. Om Namaha Shivay, chanted by Supriya, summoned Lord Shiva, who came and defeated the demon. Here is where a self-manifested Shivalinga manifested and is invoked.
