Gir National Park, Junagadh

Gir National Park

For Asiatic Lions, Gir National Park and Wildlife Sanctuary is their only remaining habitat. The Sanctuary is a component of the Kathiawar- Gir dry deciduous forests ecoregion and is situated in Talala Gir, Gujarat. The greatest months to see animals in Gir National Park are April and May. The park is closed from June 16 to October 15 of each year.

Gir offers you the opportunity to see a location that virtually alone is essential to the survival of a particular species and offers a singular experience in doing so. The Nawab of Junagadh started the process of preserving these lions when they were on the verge of going extinct because of hunting.

According to the official count, there were 411 lions in 2010. Additionally, there are about 2375 different types of wildlife in this area, including over 300 bird species, 38 mammal species, 37 reptile species, and over 2000 insect species. Here are also found the leopard, chausingha, spotted deer, hyena, sambar deer, and chinkara, which are other significant animal species.
