About The Location
Gir National Park, renowned worldwide as the only natural habitat of the majestic Asiatic lions, is also a paradise for birdwatchers. Spanning an area of 1,412 square kilometers, the park is located near the Junagadh and Gir Somnath districts of Gujarat.
Home to over 300 species of birds, both resident and migratory, Gir National Park offers birdwatchers a rich diversity of avian life. Commonly spotted birds include the Indian Pitta, Paradise Flycatcher, Black-headed Oriole, Tickell’s Blue Flycatcher, Indian Roller, and White-bellied Drongo. The park also shelters rare species such as Bonelli’s Eagle, Crested Serpent Eagle, and the endangered White-backed Vulture.
In addition to birdwatching, visitors can embark on jungle safaris to spot Asiatic lions and other wildlife, including leopards, hyenas, sambar deer, and chitals. The best time for birdwatching is during the winter months from November to February, when many migratory birds flock to the park.
Visitors can enjoy a comfortable stay at one of the many resorts located in and around the park, offering amenities such as swimming pools, restaurants, and more. Gir National Park is a must-visit destination for both bird lovers and wildlife enthusiasts.
